![]() Pause the game and it's there on the pause menu. Sethum: The clock has always counted down faster than once per second.ĪAA: There's a save feature. ![]() It's well-made, well-tuned, and grin-inducingly fun to play. Crossover doesn't do many new things, but the ambitious mixing of classic gaming heroes into one of the most recognizable game environments produces extraordinary results. Now let's throw them together and have fun! The spirit of Crossover is definitely appreciated, regardless of what any lawyer might say, and it plays on that good ole feeling of nostalgia. It certainly doesn't lend any credibility to this game, and Nintendo, Capcom, and Konami would be within their rights to have it removed. Crossover uses ripped sprites and music from six games released by major development studios. Then there's the whole issue of copyright infringement. It ends up being more of a gameplay challenge than a design flaw, though, and as I stated above, a lot of time was spent balancing and fitting these characters into a new universe. Simon is one of the worst, as his jump (just like in the original Castlevania game) is a set height and arc, making it impossible to adjust yourself in mid-air. While it's beyond awesome to stab Mario's enemies with Link's sword, not all of these gaming icons are cut out for the Mushroom Kingdom. ![]() Unique character abilities is at once the game's biggest strength and its chief drawback. A lot of attention was put on making things fit together, and that shows every time you power-up with a mushroom as Simon Belmont. Crossover is quite the opposite, gathering a number of characters with unique abilities and adapting them perfectly to Mario's platforming universe. Bill, for example, has to lay down to hit goombas, which adds a lot of flavor to the game.Īnalysis: Fan games that build on established commercial releases are usually slapped together with terrible controls and little more than a few strings of code to make the game run. Everybody can safely stomp baddies, but because of height and attack differences, not everyone can stand and fire at ground-based foes. Crossover to make sure each character's unique abilities fit into this goomba-infested world. Great care was taken with Super Mario Bros. Each character's attacks also destroy bricks and activate "?" blocks, making short work of obstacles Mario has to tackle one square at a time. Samus, for example, starts with her short-range beam, but grab a mushroom and she can fire across the screen. Powering-up is different for each character but appropriate to his or her original game. Mushrooms and flowers are good and should be collected. How cool is that?Īlthough their abilities are different, each character is still subject to the rules of the Mario universe. Each character's abilities are mostly intact, so Mega Man can still slide and fire his arm cannon, Simon still has his whip, and Samus can still roll into a ball and set bombs. Playable characters in Crossover include Samus from Metroid, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Bill from Contra, and of course, Mario himself, each in his or her original 8-bit form. Crossover weaves familiar gaming icons into a new product, allowing you to play an old game in several very unique ways. It answers the question every five year old in the late 80s had: what if I could play as Mega Man in Super Mario Bros.? Or as Samus, for that matter? Dropping half a dozen NES-era characters and their unique abilities into the familiar world of the original Super Mario Bros. Crossover is a massive dose of NES nostalgia. ![]() Most gardening experts recommend putting an inch of compost around the plant as an organic fertilizer which can provide enough nutrients for your plant year long. Most gardening experts recommend fertilizing your plant once, generally before the start of the growing season (before springtime and summer). Over-fertilizing is an issue for most amateur growers that can lead to excess foliage, yellowing, and no bloom. Generally speaking, Lavender Topiary requires a bit less fertilizing than most other plants. Provide good ventilation and air circulation but avoid putting it in direct line of heaters or air-conditioners. ![]() Lavender Topiary doesn’t need any additional sources of humidity like pebble tray or humidifier to thrive.īeing a hardy perennial herb, it can do well on its own, and you might only damage it if you make the environment more humid. However, most households have an average humidity of 30-40%, suitable for growing Lavenders. Lavenders can’t tolerate high humidity in both the soil and the air. Unlike most other tropical houseplants, Lavender Topiary instead prefers a low-humid environment. It will help to maintain sufficient temperature for your plant. Watering Requirementĭue to its hardiness, it is incredibly resistant to drought stress once appropriately established.ĭrench the soil thoroughly when watering and allow it to dry out slightly between waterings.Īs Lavender is a native plant to the Mediterranean, it prefers to stay moist but not wet. Unfortunately, this also makes it more vulnerable to diseases. Without enough sunlight, your plant will start to show weak growth and cease to produce any flowers. Try not to put your plant at a place where it will be overshadowed by shade or any other plant. Wherever you put your plant, remember to rotate the pot weekly to promote even growth and flowering. If you want to plant your Lavender Topiary outdoors, keep it where it receives at least 6 hours of full sunlight. If you don’t have a South-facing window, try locating your plant in a West window. Your Lavender will thrive if you keep it at a windowsill or a South-facing window where it gets a minimum of 5-6 hours of full sunlight daily. On the other side, Burrow completed 26 of 41 for 270 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. His go-to target on the night was wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who hauled in six of his eight targets for a team-high 116 yards and a touchdown. Mahomes finished 29 of 43 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns. That score stood at 20 for the bulk of the fourth quarter until Kansas City's defense was able to force a punt with less than a minute in regulation, and the offense took care of the rest to clinch their spot in the Super Bowl. A fumble by Mahomes on their subsequent drive, however, breathed more life into the Bengals, who'd tie the game at 20 on a drive headlined by a monumental fourth-and-6 conversation by Joe Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase. Mahomes and the Chiefs offense responded to that Cincy score with an 11-play, 77-yard touchdown drive of their own to retake the lead. They'd knot the game at 13 on their first drive of the second half, and that would begin a back-and-forth final two quarters between these two rivals. However, Cincinnati did show some signs of life in the final minutes of that first half, moving 90 yards in just over two minutes to boot a field goal before the break to cut the lead to a touchdown. All the while, the Chiefs were moving the ball well and jumped out to a 13-6 lead thanks in large part to a 14-yard touchdown to Travis Kelce late in the second quarter. The Bengals had an uncharacteristically slow start, particularly in the first quarter when they registered zero total yards of offense. This game was really a tale of two halves, with the first primarily owned by Kansas City. Mahomes scrambled up the right side of the field for five yards and was hit out of bounds, which drew an unnecessary roughness penalty to put them within Butker's range and send them to the Super Bowl. The key play on that drive came on a third-and-4 situation from the Cincinnati 47-yard line. Harrison Butker was able to kick the 45-yard game-winning field goal after Patrick Mahomes and the offense moved the ball 39 yards down the field with less than 30 seconds left in regulation. The Kansas City Chiefs have avenged their AFC Championship loss of a year ago and finally got into the win column against Joe Burrow and the Bengals, defeating Cincinnati 23-20 in the conference title game Sunday to advance to Super Bowl LVII.
